The Murray Darling River system (including  the Murray, Darling, Lachlan and Murrumbidgee Rivers) was the highway for flat bottomed shallow –draughted paddle-steamers and their barges. The rivers opened   Australia’s interior, playing a major role  in the nations expanding  prosperity. This book gives a good example of the types of river boats and paddle-steamers of yester year.
