ARKAROOLA – Northern Flinders Ranges – South Australia

Australian Landscape Photography Coffee Table Book by Pete Dobre

Awe-inspiring Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary in the Northern Flinders Ranges will captivate you. This 61,000 hectare sanctuary lies 600 kilometres north of Adelaide. It contains the most rugged chain of mountains in the Flinders Ranges.

Prospectors were the first Europeans in this area, while later Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson, with his assistant, Reg Sprigg, prospected for uranium in this vicinity. During 1914 – 1950, ore was mined.

A stunning area with imposing landscapes is one of my favourite locations for Australian landscape photography
